Former AAHomecare VP Passes Away

The well-known HME advocate developed a deep level of expertise in healthcare policy that he applied to the industry association’s efforts.

Former Vice President of Government Relations for the American Association for Homecare Walt Gorski passed away March 10 at his home in Fairfax, Va.

In his role with AAHomecare, Gorski acted as an industry lobbyist and policy lead from 2006 to 2013 and “brought a strong command of legislative and regulatory issues in the healthcare space” to that role, a statement from the association noted.

That expertise and experience began after graduating from the University of Richmond, when Gorski launched a career in healthcare policy on Capitol Hill, including work for history-making lawmakers such as House Ways and Means Chair Rep. Dan Rostenkowski (D-Ill.) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Fortney “Pete” Stark (D-Mass.).

That experience helped Gorski lead efforts to help contain CMS’s bidding program and draft legislation, provide Congressional testimony, and develop technical comments on various issues with the support of AAHomecare’s Regulatory Council.

After his work with the association, Gorski went on to found the Gorski Healthcare Group, LLC, where, as its principal, he conducted federal lobbying activities.

“Walt is remembered at AAHomecare not only for his policy acumen, but also for his kind heart, sense of humor, and self-effacing manner,” the AAHomecare statement read. “He will be greatly missed by his family, including his son Walter, and by his former colleagues here and throughout the HME community.”
