Numotion, LUCI Ink Distribution Deal

National CRT provider will become the first U.S. distribution partner for solution that combines multiple sensors and cloud-based technology to bring new functionality, control and safety to power chairs.

National complex rehab provider Numotion and smart wheelchair technology company LUCI have signed national distribution agreement that will see Numotion becomes the first U.S. partner for LUCI’s hardware/software solution.

LUCI’s technology combines camera, ultrasonic and radar sensors with data solutions to give power wheelchairs a 360-degree understanding of their surroundings and then help users avoid collisions, dangerous or difficult terrain.

The technology also gives uses a better understanding of how the chair is performing and provides cloud-based data and alerts via its MyLuci portal. The MyLuci app lets riders view their data and use a secure, encrypted system to share select information with trusted family, friends and caregivers. It can even be configured to perform tasks such as alerting caregivers of a rider’s location if their chair’s batteries are nearly depleted.

The innovation is such a game-changer that it has received considerable attention from consumer media such as Time magazine and Popular Science, and received a 2020 Mobility Management magazine Product Award.

“LUCI is the most interesting, truly innovative CRT product to come to market for some time. It takes ‘smart wheelchair’ to a whole new level,” said Mike Swinford, CEO of Numotion. “This groundbreaking technology opens doors to independence for wheelchair users and parents/caregivers who have safety concerns regarding power mobility. We are thrilled to embark on this partnership and look forward to being able to offer this new technology to customers.”

Under the deal, Numotion’s team of more than 500 ATPs will have access to LUCI educational materials, resources and expertise to help equip eligible clients with the product. The deal will also bring new technological inclusivity to riders, as LUCI works with iOS, Android, Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Health and Google Fit.

“LUCI is excited to partner with Numotion in bringing new wheelchair technologies to the forefront. This is a momentous step for our company and the industry,” said Barry Dean, CEO and co-founder of LUCI. “The entire Numotion team is incredibly focused on serving its customers’ needs. From the very beginning, they understood and immediately recognized the many ways LUCI improves the driving experience. We’re looking forward to working with Numotion as we reimagine wheelchair mobility and bring real-world solutions to users.”
