Stationary Oxygen Marketplace

Stationary oxygen equipment remains a key part of care for many long-term oxygen therapy patients. We look at some of the latest offerings.

As the need for greater business efficiency has pushed HME oxygen providers to embrace a portable oxygen concentrator revenue model, stationary oxygen equipment remains a key part of care for many long-term oxygen therapy patients.

Stationary oxygen concentrator patients are typically in need of a higher level of oxygen and spending a lot of time indoors. To accommodate these patients, stationary concentrators will have long tubes, up to 50 feet, so patients can move about. And even though these machines are commonly called “stationary,” many of them have wheels and handles to help patients traverse carpet and wood floors in order to reposition the unit in the home without help from others.

And of course, tanks and related supplies remain a critical component of many LTOT patients, as well. While portable oxygen equipment is clearly broadening the capabilities and results of LTOT, the care respiratory providers deliver will most likely represent a blended approach.

The key to a successful oxygen business lies in understanding the many types of oxygen therapy tools on the market so you can help your patients fulfill their needs through smart, educated choices. To help meet the needs of your stationary oxygen patients, here are some of the products on the market today:

SimplyFlo concentratorSimplyFlo concentrator features low weight, size

The Philips Respironics SimplyFlo stationary oxygen concentrator is 8.5 pounds. It is designed for patients who may refuse therapy due to lifestyle disruptions associated with the size and weight of other stationary concentrators on the market. SimplyFlo was designed for patients new to therapy who only require nocturnal treatment, and who may be intimidated by the size, weight, and sound of a traditional oxygen concentrator. SimplyFlo is a light, easily transportable stationary concentrator designed to help nocturnal oxygen patients improve the adoption of therapy and enhance compliance.

Companion 5Stationary concentrator from CAIRE designed for ‘workhorse’ reliability

Designed for quality, performance, and reliability, the CAIRE Companion 5 uses a high-capacity sieve and compressor to create the most durable unit on the market. The design utilizes minimal components and internal connections. The Companion 5 reliably delivers between 0.5-5.0 LPM at high purity levels, and features ultraSILENT technology, which reduces intake and exhaust noises. The device also uses CAIRE’s autoFLOW technology, which adjusts the valve cycle timing based on flow rates, which in turn produces a shorter valve cycle. This leads to reduced power consumption, higher oxygen purity, lower operating temperatures, quieter operation, and reduced pressure at lower flow rates.
