Invacare Demonstrates New Custom Wheelchair Seating System

Immersion Corp. has announced that Invacare Corp. demonstrated its PinDot Skribbl'r Custom Seating System, which includes the Immersion MicroScribe® G2L digitizer at the International Seating Symposium in Orlando, Fla., March 8-10. The PinDot Skribbl'r provides an easy, fast, and cost-effective method for practitioners to design comfortable custom wheelchair seating for clients with special needs such as complex orthopedic asymmetries or tonal abnormalities.

The MicroScribe digitizer and custom software solve several problems for the practitioner, client, and Invacare. With the digitizer system and software, messy plaster casting and recasting, refitting, machine molding, expensive shipping, warehouse storage, and weeks of waiting for a final product are eliminated.

The distributor can e-mail the digitized model to Invacare, who now can use any of a number of manufacturing methods to lower manufacturing costs and provide faster delivery of the custom seats.

"Practitioners are finding that the PinDot Skibbl'r is very easy to use and results in an excellent product that takes far less time and trouble than before," said Tom Mathes, rehab seating specialist, Pindot. "Our customers are also benefiting from cost savings by using the digitizer instead of the old custom seating methods."

"This application of our MicroScribe digitizer is particularly rewarding because it represents a win for everyone involved," said Bill Hoverter, 3D Group sales director at Immersion. "The end-user gets a better seat in less time, the practitioner saves costs and provides better customer service, and Immersion expands its applications for the versatile MicroScribe digitizer."
