AAHomecare Provides Testimony on '08 Budget to Congress

Last Thursday, the American Association for Homecare (AAHomecare) provided testimony to U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means describing the harmful effects of proposed cuts to home care benefits in Medicare.

In its testimony, AAHomecare made many of the same arguments it released immediately after the budget was announced Feb. 5: the severe cuts to home oxygen therapy, power mobility and home health would "weaken access to home care for millions of older and disabled Americans."

Putting the proposed 2008 budget numbers in perspective, AAHomecare stated that, "Home care, the most cost-effective, clinically effective and consumer-preferred modality of care, constitutes only about 5 percent of the Medicare budget (1.8 percent for durable medical equipment and 3.6 percent for home health agencies), yet constitutes nearly 20 percent of the administration?s recommended cuts."
