View CMS Web Site for Revisions to Power Mobility Fee Schedules

During the Christmas holidays, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released further revisions to the new power mobility device (PMD) fee schedules. The changes were in part due to efforts by AAHomecare?s Rehab and Assistive Technology Council (RATC) members, which had been working with CMS and federal legislators since the last revision (Nov. 9) to ensure the payment rates are calculated accurately and that no anomalies exist that would limit access to certain PMDs. To keep up to date with the latest changes and the new payment rates, visit www.cms.hhs.gov/DMEPOSFeeSched/01a_Power_Mobility_Devices.asp.

Some of the highlights from the latest revisions to the PMD fee schedules follow:

  • The Group 2 standard captain seat (K0823) increased $75.20 to $4,023.70.
  • The Group 2 heavy-duty captain seat (K0825) increased $277.60 to $4229.60.
  • All the PMD codes were increased except for the K0830 and K0831 power seat codes, which were reduced $511.80, the Group 2 MP K0841 and K0842, which were reduced $232.90, and the Group 3 Single Power Heavy Duty K0859 code, which was reduced $552.50.
  • The Group 2 Single Power Extra Heavy Duty increased the most with a $1,147 increase in the allowable to $9,498.30. It is important to note that all of the fee schedule amounts do not include batteries, which remain separately billable.

CMS stated that the new rates are effective for claims with dates of service on or after Nov. 15, and that providers can resubmit previously paid claims for adjustment.
