Sunrise Medical Awarded New Mobility Product Patent
LONGMONT, Colo. — Sunrise Medical has received a new broad-based patent covering key design concepts for its Quickie® IRIS™ and Zippie® IRIS™ tilt-in-space manual wheelchairs, the company announced.
The Quickie IRIS, introduced in 2003, utilizes a rotational tilt system in which the movement of the user's center of gravity is dramatically reduced or eliminated. As the desired tilt angle is achieved, the IRIS's design ensures that both the wheelbase and the tilt carriage remain in symmetrical balance. By eliminating significant movement during tilting, the user remains more stable and comfortable.
"When we developed the IRIS, with its revolutionary intelligent rotation in space design, we knew we had something special," said Bernd Krebs, senior vice president of mobility and standard products. "The receipt of a new patent reaffirms our corporate mission and is evidence of innovation in action."
The technology was on display at Medtrade Spring in Las Vegas March 21-23.
