Medtrade Planning Committee Meets to Enhance Educational Sessions

The Medtrade Educational Planning Committee held its first strategic planning session in Orlando to coordinate this year's educational programs for the fall Medtrade show Sept. 19-21 in Atlanta.

"We have spent considerable time evaluating and reorganizing the tracks in response to attendee concerns and requests," says Jack Evans, president of Global Media Marketing. "We are also reaching out to national organizations in related fields such as respiratory, home health and pharmacy in order to attract new speakers and attendees. I think one of our overall goals is to develop an educational curriculum that will eventually help attendees become more professional, proficient and profitable. For the first time we are reviewing attendee evaluation forms to determine which speakers are presenting themselves on a professional level. And starting this year, we are meeting twice annually to better plan the education programs at both Medtrade Spring and Fall events."

The committee is working on increasing the level of professionalism for Medtrade's seminar programs that will better represent the HME industry's primary issues and concerns. Their immediate goals are to attract more professional speakers, offer a wider array of seminar tracks, and provide continuing education credits for a wider array of health care professionals.

"For fall we will -- for the first time -- be offering CEU for pharmacists (accredited through ACPE, their national accrediting body) on home health care seminars that apply to the basic daily operations of running a home health business. These will include seminars offered under tracks such as Business Operations, Accreditation, Sales and Marketing, Leadership and Professional Development and Reimbursement. Clinical will come later," Evans says.

Committee members include chairperson Kim Kianka, director of education and meetings, AAHomecare; Jeff Baird, Brown & Fortunato P.C.; Kim Brummett, Advanced Home Care; Mary Ellen Conway, Healthcare Group; Asela Cuervo, Law Offices of Asela Cuervo; Jack Evans, Global Media Marketing; Bob Fary, Inogen Corp.; and Teresa Tatum, VNU Expositions.
