Study: COPD Linked to Hearing Loss

A new study published in April — COPD and 20-Year Hearing Decline: The HUNT Cohort Study — has found a link between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and gradual hearing loss.

Research “showed an association between COPD and increased long-term hearing decline,” the study said. “Our study also suggests that women may be more vulnerable to COPD-related high-frequency hearing loss.”

The reduced oxygen levels experienced by patients with COPD are related to hearing loss. More than 12,000 patients were studied for the research published in Respiratory Medicine.
