CMS Rolls Out New Location Inspection Procedure

Procedure is aimed at ensuring DMEPOS supplier locations are open and available for in-person inspections during COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.

CMS has implemented a new procedure to ensure DMEPOS supplier locations are open and available for in-person inspections during the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE).

Early into the PHE, CMS waived its requirement for DMEPOS suppliers to be open at a physical location a minimum of 30 hours per week. However, in July 2020, the agency ended the waiver, announced that it would move forward with physical inspections, and assured that inspectors would follow state and local guidelines.

Now, National Supplier Clearinghouse subcontractor Overland Solutions is calling supplier locations to complete these screenings. CMS has instructed the subcontractor’s staff to indicate they are with Overland Solutions when contacting suppliers.

Suppliers that receive these screening calls have been asked questions about their current company address and if they are operating from the location or from home.

To help providers stay current with CMS’s regulatory waivers, the American Association for Homecare has provided a COVID-19 Medicare Reference Sheet that lists active waivers during this PHE.
