Quantum Rehab’s iLevel System Notches 30,000 Users

Quantum is expanding use of its seat elevation system among as well as its efforts to receive Medicare coverage for the capability.

Quantum Rehab’s iLevel seat elevation system has hit an important milestone: more than 30,000 people are using the technology, the company announced last week.

Since its release in 2015, iLevel has used its patented stability technology to help wheelchair users safely elevate while driving up to 4.5 mph. The system has helped clients achieve higher levels of independence in their daily lives, according to Jay Brislin, Quantum’s vice president.

“We are very excited and humbled to see the continued success of iLevel technology throughout the industry,” Brislin said, adding that the system will be incorporated into the Edge 3 Stretto, a pediatric product set to launch in January.

The company continues to advocate for Medicare coverage of the technology, and numbers like this help make the case that users need systems like iLevel and other entities besides Medicare are willing to fund it.

Thanks to multiple meetings and communications with CMS this year, Quantum’s position in support of Medicare coverage “continues to strengthen,” said Seth Johnson, Pride Mobility’s senior vice president of government affairs.

“The increased awareness and prevalence of the power adjustable seat height (PASH) technology in the community, coupled by the fact that Medicare is the only payor who will not consider it for coverage, has really helped position the issue well,” Johnson told HME Business.

In Quantum’s meetings with CMS, the company has highlighted the life-enhancing capabilities that iLevel offers to people with disabilities, Johnson said. The expanded independence often provides cost savings to the payor and health system through a reduction in need for a caregiver or other support services.

“That makes this a win-win for CMS and most importantly the consumers who need this technology to be active and independent,” Johnson told HME Business, adding that there are strong customer advocacy efforts for Medicare coverage of iLevel.
