ACHC Rolls Out Home Infusion Therapy Accreditation

Program designed to help providers meet new accreditation requirements in order to receive Medicare reimbursement in 2021.

To help providers address upcoming changes to Medicare reimbursement requirements, the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) is launching a new accreditation program for home infusion therapy providers.

The program addresses education, assessment, medication review and development of the plan of care provided by nurses or healthcare professionals during a home visit. Susan Mills, the ACHC’s associate clinical director, said the commission is dedicated to helping ensure high-quality patient care as the demand for home infusion therapy grows.

"Our standards were designed to meet new accreditation requirements while preserving the value of home infusion therapy services and helping providers enhance the quality of services they provide,” Mills said.

As mandated by the 21^st Century CURES Act, home infusion suppliers must be accredited by a CMS-approved organization by Jan. 1, 2021 in order to receive Medicare reimbursement. ACHC’s new Home Infusion Therapy Accreditation program will evaluate all initial and renewal provider applications against the new standards provided by CMS.

The commission also provides educational resources, including information detailing all standard changes, to help providers meet the new requirements.
