Portable Oxygen Concentrators

If there’s one innovation that has revolutionized the care of oxygen patients as well as the way oxygen providers run their businesses, it is portable oxygen concentrators (POCs). With multiple funding pressures forcing providers to radically re-envision their business models, the advent of the POC meant that they could drive a massive layer of overhead from their businesses by reducing their deliveries.

But the business angle was only one benefit, POCs mean that patients are no longer tethered to the home. With a portable device they could go abroad for much longer periods of time and live truly independent lifestyles. This benefited not only their life enjoyment, but increased ambulation, which has been shown to result in more beneficial therapy and better patient outcomes.

As much as the POC was a major development in the care of oxygen patients, manufacturers have continued to refine their offerings. Over the last nine years, POCs in general have become more reliable, economically priced, smaller, and lighter weight than original offerings, which lets oxygen patients be more mobile than ever before. As equipment makers continue to drive new POC innovations, patients enjoy better therapy, and providers enjoy smaller cost models and wider reimbursement margins. Let’s take a look at some of the latest offerings on the market:
