Respironics Appoints Simon McGuire as Managing Director, Respiratory Drug Delivery

Respironics Inc. has appointed Simon McGuire as managing director of respiratory drug delivery (RDD) UK Ltd., the European base of Respironics' Respiratory Drug Delivery business unit headquartered in Cedar Grove, N.J.

In his new role, McGuire will be responsible for leading all RDD activities in the UK, including manufacturing operations, quality assurance and regulatory functions, and the Profile Pharma business. Respironics' Respiratory Drug Delivery business develops and markets a broad range of inhalation drug delivery devices from general purpose compressor nebulizers and MDI spacers to I-neb®, an intelligent precision dosing delivery system based upon the Company's AAD® (Adaptive Aerosol Delivery) technology. Since Respironics' acquisition of Profile Therapeutics in July 2004, McGuire has held the position of director, New Business Development, building the foundation of RDD's business with pharmaceutical and biotech companies utilizing the I-neb AAD System.

"Simon's proven scientific and management experience has enabled us to expand the use of our AAD technology and build relationships with other companies who are now evaluating this technology for use with new pharmaceutical formulations," explained Susan Lloyd, vice president of Respironics Respiratory Drug Delivery business.

McGuire, a biochemist by training, previously worked for Glaxo Smith Kline as a formulation scientist and as general manager at Harlan Seralabs. He later served as the director of sales and marketing for profile respiratory systems prior to joining Respironics. McGuire recently completed a two-year diploma program in company direction from the Institute of Directors in the UK.
