Respironics Acquires OxyTec Medical

Respironics has announced a new addition to its sleep and home respiratory care group with the acquisition of OxyTec Medical Corp. The move supports its home respiratory care strategy of providing treatment solutions to the growing number of ambulatory patients reliant on long-term oxygen therapy, such as people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

OxyTec Medical Corp., formed in Anaheim Hills, Calif., in 2004, was acquired for its recently developed portable oxygen concentrator, the OxyTec 900a. This portable oxygen concentrator can operate for as long as eight hours before the patient must recharge the unit's internal batteries or connect to a conventional power source.

Respironics will introduce the OxyTec product to the U.S. market this year, with international markets to follow.
