Canada to Host 5th World Conference on Breast Cancer

The World Conference on Breast Cancer Foundation has announced that the 5th World Conference on Breast Cancer will take place June 4-8, 2008, at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

More than 600 delegates and presenters are expected to attend from countries including India, Egypt, Philippines, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, China, Spain, Ireland, France, England, Nigeria, Venezuela, Canada and the United States.

Following on the heels of the success of the 4th World Conference on Breast Cancer — which took place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in June 2005 — the 5th World Conference will share information on all aspects of breast cancer: research, diagnosis, treatment, support, prevention, outreach and education; build and strengthen international networks concerned with breast cancer; move forward and advance global and local action related to breast cancer.

The Conference, held every three years, attracts survivors, survivor groups, family members, friends, service providers, community organizations, volunteers, public educators, advocates, researchers, scientists and health care professionals.

"The World Conference is crucial to international action on breast cancer because it builds knowledge, capacity and empowerment among women affected by the disease and the networks of family, friends and health professionals that surround them," said Valerie Hepburn, president of the World Conference on Breast Cancer Foundation.
